The Urban Health and Wellbeing Programme of the International Science Council (ISC), with its secretariat at the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Xiamen, China, published a report titled “Urban Health and Wellbeing in the Anthropocene. An Interdisciplinary Science-Action Plan for Urban Health and Wellbeing in an Age of Complexity and Systematic Risks(2021-2025)”, which emphasizes on improving the health and wellbeing of people in cities to a broader prospective that includes improving population and planetary health within complex urban systems. The report further highlights a need of more eco-centric view than an anthropocentric view, acknowledging the human impact on environment. The report calls for cities that should be resilient and adaptive that not only adapt to environmental challenges but also create healthy and sustainable conditions for both people and the planet. The report also highlights that urban health is a crucial element in major global agreements related to cities, carbon mitigation, sustainable development, and disaster risk reduction.
GlohMed investigator Dr. Suraj Bhattarai contributed to this report in the capacity of the ISC’s Scientific Committee Member of the Urban Health and Wellbeing Programme.
