Visit to St George’s – Centre for Neonatal and Paediatric Infection (CNPI)
Dr. Suraj Bhattarai, Director and Clinical Investigator at GlohMed, recently met Professor Paul T. Heath at St George’s University of London. Professor Heath is a paediatric infectious disease consultant at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a specialist interest in immunology and vaccination. He leads the paediatric immunology and vaccine unit (CNPI).
The meeting focused on various potential research topics, including an ongoing collaborative project on Group B Streptococcus (GBS) prevalence in Nepal.
St. George’s holds a historical connection with Edward Jenner, who was an English physician and scientist renowned as the pioneer of the smallpox vaccine, the world’s first vaccine. Jenner completed his medical training at St George’s Hospital in London under the guidance of John Hunter. His groundbreaking work in 1796, using material from cowpox lesions to provide immunity to smallpox, laid the foundation for modern immunology and vaccination.
