National Climate and Health Conference 2024, Kathmandu (Participation)
In August 2024, GlohMed investigator Dr. Suraj Bhattarai participated in the National Climate and Health Conference organized by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) and the WHO Country Office in Nepal, as an invitee. The major focus of the conference was on the intersection of health and climate change bringing different experts to address emerging issues and strategies to manage the health systems in the context of climate change. Over 150 people, including government officials, health professionals, and environmentalists, discussed critical issues like air pollution, WASH, and environmental health. The event emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-sectoral strategies to improve the resilience and sustainability of Nepal’s health system, in line with the Health National Adaptation Plan and the country’s COP26 commitments. On behalf of WHO Nepal, Dr. Bhattarai contributed to the national vulnerability and risk assessment (VRA) report on climate sensitive diseases, which is endorsed and published by the Ministry of Health and Population.
