NIHR global health course on Health Data Science 2025

On March 9th -12th, Dr. Sachit Sharma attended a short course titled “Health Data Science and Economic Evaluation in Context of Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTCs)”, in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dr. Sharma is a senior intensivist/ Critical care physician, faculty and researcher at the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Kathmandu, as well as an aspiring Clinical investigator of GlohMed and its executive member.

Dr. Sharma was selected among many applicants for this 4-day in-person training organized by the NIHR Global Health Center for MLTCs, sponsored by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), United Kingdom. This NIHR GH Center is a consortium of renowned universities in the UK (Leicester, Birmingham, Brunel, Longborough, Nottingham, UCL), HRIDAY India, ICMR India, Public Health Foundation of India and Kathmandu Medical College, Nepal.

Around 45 participants representing different hospitals and academic intuitions across the country, and working in diverse clinical, public health and research sectors and at early to mid-career stages, learned the methods and approach to conduct economic evaluation in healthcare related studies. This hands-on course was a stimulation exercise for assessing economic impact of medical interventions that are applied in daily clinical practice to improve health outcomes of the patients.

GlohMed promotes scholarly activities which enhance academic and research skills of Nepali clinicians and allied health professionals who are keen to adopt evidence-based medical practice and health care.
