Symposium on Burkholderia and One Health
Burkholderia pseudomallei is an often neglected tropical disease that spreads mainly to farmers through environmental exposure with higher risk in patients with diabetes. It presents with fever, pneumonia and features of sepsis and is not commonly considered in patients presenting with these features.
Nepal Burkholderia Network (NEBUNET) is a newly established research network hosted by GlohMed in collaboration with the Diagnostic & Research Institute of Hygiene, Microbiology and Environmental Medicine, Medical University of Graz (MUG), Austria.
The NEBUNET network is pleased to organize a half-day in-person symposium on “Burkholderia, Human melioidosis and One Health” on March 03, 2026 in Kathmandu. This symposium aims to raise awareness among clinicians, microbiologists, laboratory technicians, veterinarians, environmental scientists, and policymakers about the hidden burden of Burkholderia in Nepal and in South Asia, within the concept and framework of “One Health”.
